Useful information to make your trip to Korea more enjoyable
Public transportation in Seoul is very convenient and affordable. You can purchase a T-money card (3,000 won) at convenience stores and charge it to freely use subways and buses.
- Subway: 9 lines connect all of Seoul, operating from 5:30 AM to midnight.
- Bus: Tap your card at the front door when boarding and at the back door when getting off.
- Fare: Basic fare is 1,500 won, varying by bus color.
- Transfer: Transfers are free within 30 minutes.
There is generally no tipping culture in Korea. You don't need to tip at restaurants, taxis, hotels, etc. Service charges are already included in the price.
However, some high-end hotels and restaurants may automatically add a service charge.
Restrooms in Korea are clean and can be found everywhere.
- Subway: Depending on the station, restrooms may be inside or outside the gates.
- Restaurants: All restaurants have restrooms.
- Shopping Malls: Most have restrooms on every floor.
There are various ways to order at Korean restaurants:
- Direct Order: Call a staff member to order. Just say "Excuse me!" (저기요)
- Bell: If there's a call bell at the table, press the button to call staff.
- Kiosk: Some chain restaurants use touchscreen kiosks for ordering.
- Refills: Water and side dishes are free and refillable at most restaurants.
Most stores in Korea offer refunds or exchanges within 7-14 days with a receipt.
- Department Stores: Usually refundable within 7 days
- Duty-Free Shops: Refundable within 30 days of purchase
- Tax Refund: Foreign tourists can get VAT refund on purchases over 15,000 won.
